Saesara

Saesara (“the grinning one”) was the daughter of King Celeus of Eleusis. Her mother may have been Metaneira. Unfortunately, there are very few references to her in ancient literature. Saesara (“the grinning one”) was the daughter of King Celeus of Eleusis. Her mother may have been Metaneira. Unfortunately, there are very few references to her in ancient literature. In his Description of Greece, Pausanias mentions that the Athenian poet Pamphos and the epic poet Homer agree in naming Celeus’ three daughters Saesara, Pammerope, and Diogenea. Saesara married Crocon, whose mythical kingdom extended near Rheitoi (present-day Lake Koumoundourou) to the north of the Sacred Way that connected Eleusis to Athens.
