The neokoros was responsible for the cleanliness and beautification of the sanctuary. Unfortunately, there is not much information about the duties, rights, obligations or origin of the people who held this position. We know, however, that there was a particular building in Eleusis, known as the neokorion, in which the specific officials would obviously live. There is a report of a “Persian” neokoros who had to do something with the intestines (remove them or buy them), but the inscription is too fragmentary to draw safe conclusions.
