Eleventh day | 24th of Boedromion | Dike
On the 24th of Boedromion, the Archon Basileus appeared before the Boule of the Five Hundred in the City Eleusinion and gave the official report on the celebration of the Greater Mysteries. From the time of Solon, it was also customary for the Five Hundred to adjudicate cases related to deviations that had occurred during the festival. However, it was not a typical procedure. The Athenians strictly guarded the sanctity of the Mysteries and severely punished those who deviated from the proper behaviour towards the goddesses of Eleusis. The sanctuary of Demeter and the City Eleusinion were full of stone and bronze stelae, recording the names of those who had disrespected the goddesses and the punishment they had received.
