Discovery Learning with myEleusis.SG
Within the myEleusis.SG subsystem, the team of the “Athena” Research Centre (researchers specializing in computer science and archaeologists) in collaboration with the archaeologists of the Ephorate of Antiquities of West Attica, approach the sanctuary of Demeter and Kore and the Archaeological Museum of Eleusis as a place of exploration. For the subsystem, they create a playful and fun experience as an alternative means of getting to know the history and the archaeological findings of Eleusis in a unifying way.
The museum is transformed into a virtual space of discovery and learning; the visitor is transformed into a virtual explorer and the game begins. The myth of the abduction of Persephone and the history of the sanctuary of Eleusis unfold in a three-dimensional virtual environment that reflects the intensely mysterious character of the place. The digital visitor, following the light of a torch, discovers digital copies of ancient objects related to the history of the place, that are part of the collection of the physical museum. At the same time, Persephone, Demeter and Pluto narrate the myth according to the user's choices, each one from their own point of view. Thus, the application offers an enhanced multimodal experience of personalized active discovery of the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of ancient Eleusis, which aims to stir the interest in the archaeological site and attract new visitors of all ages.
The images above are snapshots of the game, which evolves inside the Archaeological Museum of Eleusis.
The serious game, myEleusis.SG, created within myEleusis project, is currently in the final stages of development and content adjustment. Coming next is the testing and optimization phase of the subsystem based on the requirements that must be met.
